Mardi Gras- (Mardi Gras 2012 falls on Tuesday, February 21). Mardi Gras, “Fat Tuesday”, is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Everyone is wearing purple, green, and gold; and adorned with long beads caught from the beautiful floats. New Orleans Mardi Gras celebrations draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to the city to mingle with the locals at the famed parties and parades. As many as a half-million spectators have been estimated by officials to line the route of major parades.
